One-on-One Music Lessons
Music and Kids will proudly continue offering its signature one-on-one music lessons to students who are thriving in the program. These personalized sessions have been the cornerstone of our mission to inspire, educate, and empower youth through music.
Music and Mental Health Program
We have launched our Music and Mental Health program, which is designed to support students who may be struggling emotionally or academically. This initiative addresses the growing need for mental health awareness among youth by combining the therapeutic benefits of music with a compassionate, structured approach to emotional wellness.
After the COVID-19 shutdowns, we witnessed a heartbreaking shift. In 2022, many students began dropping out of the program. Some expressed feeling overwhelmed, anxious, and even voiced thoughts of self-harm.
We spent months making phone calls, meeting with educators, counselors, and mental health professionals, and reading extensively about the long-term effects of the pandemic on children and teens. What we found was sobering: two years of school closures, limited social interaction, and the isolation caused by entire communities shutting down have had a deep and lasting impact on youth ages 8 to 18 across California.
In response, Music and Kids has developed a new, holistic program that blends our music education model with mental health awareness and support. This initiative addresses the top seven issues currently affecting young people: anxiety, depression, low self-esteem, emotional regulation, social isolation, academic pressure, and trauma.
Our Music and Mental Health program is built to not only teach music but to create a safe and expressive space where students can process emotions, build confidence, and reconnect with their peers. Music becomes both a creative outlet and a therapeutic bridge to healing.
Through this program, we’re helping youth recover, rebuild, and find hope— one lesson, one note at a time.
Community Events
We also host 15 community events throughout the year, reinforcing our commitment to bringing families, neighbors, and partners together through shared experiences and joyful expression. These gatherings play a vital role in building a sense of belonging and collective support in the communities we serve.
The introduction of the Music and Mental Health program will also bring a noticeable shift toward more mindful and empathetic communication across all aspects of our organization. By fostering a gentler, more supportive tone, we aim to create a safe and welcoming environment where every student feels heard, valued, and encouraged to grow — not just as musicians, but as resilient individuals.
