Grant Support

Music and Kids Receives Grant Funds from Los Angeles County Arts & Culture

Music and Kids has received notice of two grant awards to help the organization continue to provide music education programs to students in Palmdale and the Antelope Valley. The California Arts Council, a California state agency, has selected Music and Kids as a recipient of their Local Impact program grant. Additionally, the LA County Department of Arts and Culture has selected Music and Kids to be placed on their pre-qualified list of organizations for Youth Development through the Arts. This will allow organizations within the Los Angeles County Arts Education Collective to choose Music and Kids as a provider of programming for the youth they serve. The Los Angeles County Arts Education Collective, coordinated by the Department of Arts and Culture, is dedicated to ensuring that all young people grow up with the arts – in school, after school, and in community settings – with an eye towards equitable distribution of arts instruction and cultural resources. These two grants will allow Music and Kids to continue to provide programming through their independent programs.

When asked about these grants, Chuck Murphy, founder of Music and Kids, said, “We are thrilled to have been selected by the California Arts Council and the LA County Department of Arts and Culture as grant recipients. This funding will allow us to bring six students into the program from our waiting list of over 80 students, so there is still plenty more work to do. We could not have done this without the support we receive from our volunteer board and staff, the City of Palmdale, our community here in the Antelope Valley, and specifically Palmdale Director of Neighborhood Services, Mike Miller, and the local and state representatives who wrote letters of support on our behalf. Our gratitude goes out to California State Senator Scott Wilk, California Assemblyman Tom Lacky and former US Congressman Steve Knight. With this support, we hope to continue to provide valuable services to the children and the community of Palmdale and the Antelope Valley.”
