Music and Our Promise
Music and our Promise is a free program designed to focus on teens and young adults that are at high risk and/or coming out of the system. It is a one to one direct learning program that focuses on the instrument of your choice, as well as music theory. Students in this program will have one lesson a week and one meeting a month in a small group to talk with students their own age about issues they are having with music or reentry. Students and teachers will have the ability to adapt what works best when teaching, to help the student understand and learn at their own pace.
Research has shown that music has a profound effect on your body and mind. There are growing complex studies linking various benefits, proving that music can be therapeutic. Listening to music can help build the immune system, ease anxiety, build character, improve cognitive development, and the most useful benefit to students is music’s ability to improve memory and focus during a study session. All the above can help rebuild a student's pattern of thinking.
Music and our Promise connects under-served youth that have been in the system with local businesses, government, cultural institutions, and support services so they may achieve their full potential. Our programs reach the under-served youth of Palmdale, California, creating a holistic cycle where students progress to colleges, careers, and to give back to their community.
Here at Music and our Promise, we teach character, responsibility, and strength through music.
